Tellima Project - 2017
This project was one that clearly shows how good space planning can not just physically but also visually enlarge your sense of space. This small back yard was not a pleasant place for the homeowners to use - they felt exposed and uncomfortable. Also, they wanted a pretty space with lots of color that reminded them of the wife's Caribbean heritage to relax in and enjoy but were not keen gardeners so needed easy care plants that would require minimal maintenance but still look good all year long. I designed a new garden space that eliminated the small unusable lawn and had a raised garden border with plants installed that would give them lots of hot, bright Caribbean colors in the foliage and flowers. A poured and stamped concrete patio replaced the plain concrete patio stones and a new pergola provides a sense of enclosure and privacy for the new space. A few size appropriate trees will provide screening for the patio from the neighbours behind. The transformation was incredible and the homeowners are thrilled with the change. They use the patio all the time now.
